Ok I know I am a little behind the times but earlier this month I finally went to TGI Fridays for the first time.
They opened a restaurant where I live about a year and a half ago but after hearing bad reviews I decided to give it a miss.
However, the bright lights kept calling to me and I finally decided it was time to give it a go as a birthday treat.
I had checked their website beforehand. Their prices are slightly more expensive than the average restaurant.
I opted for the Cheeseburger Deluxe for £10.99 but as you can see there isn't much to it. I find I normally struggle to eat all the chips that you get with most meals. But as you can see that wasn't the case here. I also wasn't too keen on the flavour of the cheese they used.
My husband ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger for £13.49.
(Please ignore the rib that is on top of the chips!!)
The rest of family opted for the half rack of Jack Daniels' doubled glazed ribs, £13.49. The sauce was quite sickly, not at all what I expected.
I had signed up to their emails and for my birthday they had sent me a voucher for up to 6 free desserts with every adult main meal purchased. How could I refuse an offer like that?
I ordered the Chocolate Fudge Fixation. The description on the menu states: "Three layers of moist chocolate cake with rich chocolate & fudge filling, served warm with vanilla flavor ice cream."
So I wasn't impressed with all the caramel that came with it. For me it made the cake really sickly and ruined what would have been a perfect dessert.

This is the Brownie Obsession. I am not sure what is with TGI's caramel 'obsession'? I am not a big fan of caramel and would rather just have a chocolate dessert. The brownie was heavenly but you can have too much of a good thing.
Overall, the atmosphere was fun and friendly. I went with family on a Thursday night so there were mostly couples and people who were having an after work meal. It was relatively quiet when we arrived at 6pm but by about 7.30pm the restaurant had started to fill up.
We had 2 courses but for a party of 6 it took an hour for each course to come out and a further 30 minutes to get the bill so the service was rather slow.

If you are celebrating a birthday there they do give you a free cake and sing to you whilst they make you wear a balloon hat!
Personally, I prefer other American restaurants where you can get great tasting burgers for less price, better service and that doesn't leave me going home hungry.
